Artist's statement:
THE MECHANICS OF IT ALL
I always feel the hesitation when I first meet people,
And they see a wheelchair, batteries, a table growing out of it, a mechanical arm, a drink holder
And it’s hard to see that behind all of that there’s just a person.
It’s almost as if they give you a feeling of being heavy and cumbersome.
People feel like they need to be accepting of “a person with a disability”
And they try with the best of intentions but just the fact that they had to try at all makes it more awkward.
